The Shit is Crazy...

The shit ? it's crazy. if you haven't taken my advice, and copped the fly 2 yet, i have no possible idea what you could be waiting for. shout out to hopp for co-signing the shit out of Willie the Kid, cause had it not been for that, i probably would have passed on this.

but yea, the whole tape goes. also, if you're looking for other shit from WTK outside of "the fly 2", this would be a good place to start.

The LwH/GBM Remix Contest

NOTE- i posted this on GeorgeBushMoney about a week ago, still waiting on submissions -please send your remix to georgebushmoney@gmail.com or LWHRadio@gmail.com

After several discussions and even more suggestions, we’re finally happy to announce the details for the first official LightWeightHeavy Remix Battle. Initially, we tossed around the idea of creating a live beat battle on the show, but it seemed like a huge undertaking. It’s tough to get everyone to participate when there’s only a two hour window to work within. Eventually, we decided to steal 50 Cent’s brilliant idea, and just place an acapella out there to let the producers work their magic with it.

When it came down to choosing an actual song for everyone to work with, I knew we wanted to go with Nas, given his penchant for picking shitty beats. *ducks hail of bullets from the GBM staff* Instead of going with a beat that is begging for improvement, we decided to choose one that sets the bar high with it’s original production, and force the beatsmiths to really bring their A-game.

So here you have it – Nas’ “Purple”, my favorite song off Lost Tapes, stripped down to just the vocals. In my time on the hip hop blog comment section circuit, I’ve seen a lot of shit talking about how “nobody is fucking with my beats” from various screen names, so here is your chance. Submit your entries by May 1st (of THIS year, slackers) and we will play the submissions on LWHRadio.

If you win, you’ll be the lucky recipient of a dime bag of Ohio’s finest dirt weed, a pack of g-unit wife beaters, and bragging rights amongst your internet peers as the champion of the boards.

#GeorgeBushMoney is the army, better yet the navy

so awhile back, some of my internet cronies and i had come up with the idea to join forces, and create a blog that is unfuckwittable. being that i am lazy, and we are spread out all over the world, it took a while for the pieces to fall into place. seeing the great things happening over at #nojumper kind of inspired me to get the team back together and make this idea a reality.(shout out yayo) things here at LWH will pretty much stay the same, with me virtually ignoring it for the most part. the LWHRadio show will also continue as it has been, although a name change is in the near future. george bush money is that new money. check us out here.

you other blogs - be prepared for the takeover. we puttin you on the summer jam screen.

OFSTFUGTFOH

odd future this. odd future that. are you sick of hearing about these guys yet ?

I’m gettin there. the crazy part is that most people haven’t really dug into the catalog of all the different arms of OFWGKTA, and are really basing their opinion on a song or two, or what everyone else is saying.

Polarizing would be an understatement.. it seems you either think tyler and earl are the next jay and nas, or you think they are attention seeking, shock rapping children who listened to too much Marshall Mathers and don’t deserve the shine they are getting over the last few months.

I suppose i’m one of the few who is somewhere in between. I don’t really care for them, personally, but i have to admit that when i put their ridiculous antics aside and just listen to the music, there are some gems. Imagine if you had never heard of Tyler and his gang of raping skateboarders and this song came on the radio. Tell me you wouldn’t wanna know who is that spittin’ or who produced this?

.. you would. Because this is good hip-hop. and if i stop and really think about it, i can almost justify their sometimes ridiculous behavior. I mean, they are all under 20, and based god knows, when i was a teenager, i was wild as fuck, and i’m sure i said some crazy shit on the regular. Not to mention that i wasn’t dealing with new found celebrity and loads of cash and bitches who wanna throw it at me on GP.

moral of the story, you probably shouldn’t take OFWGKTA too seriously, but you might really miss out on some good shit if you don’t take the time to listen to the music.

Nathaniel "Nate Dogg" Hale - August 19, 1969 – March 15, 2011

Hip hop fans all over the world are waking up to news of the passing of a legend. I don't use that term loosely, but that is what Nate Dogg was. The original hook master. If you needed to make an album pop in the 90's or 2000's you called on his services to sing the hook. His smooth vocals, coupled with his tough west coast g-funk persona, made for a combination that can not be replicated. It came off on wax as a reserved, confident man who didn't need to get loud to get his point across. You knew that he meant business and was not to be fucked with. Working with some of the biggest hip hop acts ever, from the West, East, North, South, wherever, he solidified himself in the pages of music history. I have compiled some of Nate's best features. I'm not going to rank these, or do anything like that. I just think they should be enjoyed. While he has tons and tons of features, I picked 10. These are some of the ones he's best known for, as well as some of my personal favorites.

You can download the comp Here

1. Obie Trice ft. Nate Dogg - The Setup

2. Obie Trice ft. Nate Dogg - Look in My Eyes

3. 50 Cent ft. Nate Dogg - 21 Questions

4. Proof ft. Nate Dogg - Sammy Da Bull

5. Fabolous ft. Nate Dogg - Can't Deny It

6. Xzibit ft. Eminem & Nate Dogg - Say My Name

7. Xzibit ft. Nate Dogg - Multiply

8. Ludacris ft. Nate Dogg - Area Codes

9. Lloyd Banks ft. Eminem, 50 Cent & Nate Dogg - Warriors Part 2 (Remix)

10. Warren G ft. Nate Dogg - Regulate

what is this fuckery ?

this fuckery would be some type of advertisement/snippet type shit for some project that my homie Dmitri is putting together. i know absolutely nothing about this project, or what it will entail, so maybe he will be cool enough to swoop thru the comments and provide some insight as to what he is working on. either way, the beat in this video is definitely towing the line between "i fux with it" and "certified crack cocaine"

UPDATE - dmitri just sent me the cover art to said project, so i figured i'd add it to here. apparently, it's going to be titled "ticket stubs". he probably explained this to me at some point, and i forgot because my short term memory just isn't what it used to be.

the new standard??

this started as a random comment from me on nahright, but i was actually thinking that it's pretty accurate..
let's see if we can get this to become the new standard of excellence (or garbage, in "Laser's" case)

-holy ghost music (reserved for only the holiest of holy)
-certified crack cocaine (not classic, but damn good)
-i fucks with it (might get some repeat spins, but nothing groundbreaking)
-mad “eh..” status (unimpressive, mad average, doesn't stand out in any way)
-wack juice (terrible music, what were they thinking? GTFOHWDBS)
-verizon wireless is hiring (should only be used in the event that the artist should give up music altogether and never touch a mic again.. pause)

and for the record, just to apply the new system for this weeks 2 biggest drops..
lupe fiasco's "lasers" is considered "wack juice" - i would of given it the dreaded "verizon wireless is hiring", but i still think lupe has a chance to make good music, so i don't want him to retire.. i just never want to hear "lasers" again

on the other hand, raekwon seems to keep winning(is rae copping tiger blood from sheen on the low? he seems to be unable to drop wackness lately)i wouldn't call "shaolin vs wu-tang" certified "holy ghost music", but let's be serious- an album can't be bestowed such a prestigious honor after a few days in the rotation. the shit is most definitely certified crack cocaine tho.. if you haven't heard "rich & black" yet, slap yourself and then click play on the embed below.

spread the word.. 5 mics ? XXL ? we off that.. MC's need to be aiming for that "holy ghost music"..

nas- "star wars"

i realize this isn't the GOAT nas track, but it came through on the shuffle, and fit my mood perfectly.. sometimes, i just need some crazy lyrics over a nice little beat. fuck all that extra shit.

who's gonna save my soul ?

so i am almost positive that this isn't an official collaboration or anything. someone c & p'd an electronica verse over a gnarls barkley song, and this is the result. but i'm diggin it. shouts to D_Block for putting together a jay electronica compilation with some gems that i didn't already have.

here's hoping that mr badu is somewhere right now, crafting a classic.

J Dilla mega post

so it goes without saying that i am a huge fan of Dilla's music. today would be his 37th birthday, and thursday will mark the 5th anniversary of his death. i'm expecting alot of jay dee content to overrun the net this week, and i'm totally ok with that. dilla deserves your stannery. anyway- here's a couple things that caught my eye today, starting with the "still shining" documentary, spotted at nahright.

"J.Dilla: Still Shining" from B.Kyle on Vimeo.

i also wanted to post this shit i saw today at The Smoking Section. raj from TSS wrote - a trio of NYU students calling themselves Stray Phases – Storm Siegel on drums, Dave Mainella on piano and Evan Crane on bass – performed a rendition of Donuts, to a small crowd of locals at a NYC bar on Sunday October 17, 2010. It goes from cover to cover, precisely recreating his music with a jazz twist, as an ode to the late musician.
J Dilla’s Donuts Performed By Stray Phrases by TheSmokingSection

and finally, DJ Rhettmatic put together a pretty dope mix of some dilla produced crack rocks, spotted at at KevinNottingham.get it here.

i'm also gonna put together a dilla mix of my own, for the homie Speez, and i can't wait to hear what he does with it.(ll) once i finally get all my music back that i lost in the great external hard drive crash of 2010, i'll post that up here for anyone who's interested.

J dilla's music is timeless. it's what i would describe as "holy ghost music".. his compositions have been played at friends funerals, and at my wedding. i almost gave my son "dilla" as his middle name (my wife talked me out of it at the very last minute) his contributions to hip-hop and music in general cannot be overstated. rest in peace, and turn it up!

all big letters but it isn't no acronym

so i meant to post this a week or so ago, and i forgot. my stannery isn't what it used to be. i've been waiting for madvillainy 2 for awhile now, and hopefully these leaks (taken from a stonesthrow podcast) will lead to a release date, and ultimately a new MV LP. #teamDOOM

Yo here is this past weeks show, lots of unintentional comedy. If that was your first time ridin with us, make sure you keep listening. peace LWH Radio

Sunday, January 9, 2011

why do you hate dan the automator ?

i stole that title from HL. he won't mind. but seriously - why doesn't this guy get more love? crazy versatile, crazy talented, and asian ? stop playin' b.

some people might not be hip to the Loveage album, its kind of a portishead bite, but with my kizza mike patton on vocals. could you lose with an automator/patton combo ? no. you could not. and since i'm on my angry white boy shit today (no columbine)i'm playing only "cut yourself" music on the show today. won't you join us ?

LWHRadio today at 5pm EST

also - if you need this lovage album (you do) holla at me for a link (paws)
